How do you fix a squeaky car suspension?
For the past few days, I’ve noticed squeaking sounds coming from under the car when I hit bumps or go over the train crossing near my work. How do you fix a squeaky car suspension? Can I just get under the car and spray WD-40 somewhere?

To fix a squeaky car suspension you’ll need a polymer-based lubricant.
Suspensions consist of many metal parts that would squeak and clank and bang together if not for lots of small rubber cylinders called bushings, which are located throughout your front and rear suspensions. Bushings are essential to your suspension operating noiselessly and comfortably.
Bushings need to stay lubricated to function effectively—and noiselessly. So you should remove the tire closest to the squeaking noise and then spray as many bushings as you can find there with a polymer-based lubricant—ATP AT-205 Reseal is a very popular option for this—and let the lubricant soak into the rubber for a while before driving.
Why a polymer-based lubricant, and not WD-40? Your suspension is exposed to the elements constantly, so heavy rain or snow will wash the WD-40 away pretty quickly. The polymer lubricant is a lot more resilient and will keep your bushings protected a lot longer.
If the squeaks are loud or if the bushings look damaged, it’s better (and safer) to have them replaced. Bushings vary wildly in price, from around $5 to $300, plus labor costs to have them installed. But chances are the AT-205 Reseal will get the job done in most instances.
