How do you check a Toyota Corolla's transmission fluid?

I bought a used car recently. I want to take a look at the transmission fluid to see if the last owner got it changed before I bought the car. How do I check the transmission fluid on a Toyota?

Congratulations on your new car! You can check your
Toyota Corolla
’s transmission fluid by following these steps:
  • If your car’s off, turn it on. Keep it in park, leave it running, and wait for the engine to get warm.
  • Open the hood
and locate the transmission fluid dipstick toward the front on the driver’s side of your car.
  • Pull out the dipstick. If you see particles or debris in the fluid or smell a burnt smell, your fluid needs to be changed.
  • Next, wipe the dipstick off and carefully reinsert it.
  • Gently pull the dipstick out again to check the fluid level. If the fluid is clear but doesn’t meet the line on the dipstick, add more fluid.
