How do you change rotors on a Ford Explorer?

I’m a fairly experienced DIY mechanic, and the brake rotors in my car need to be replaced. I’m pretty sure I have all the equipment to do it myself. How do you change rotors on a Ford Explorer?

Changing out rotors will take time, effort, and patience, but it sounds like this isn’t your first rodeo!
Follow these steps to change rotors on a
Ford Explorer
:
  • Lift the car on jacks and take all safety precautions
  • Open the hood, open the filler reservoir and remove ⅓ of the contents using a baster
  • Tighten a C-clamp around the brake caliper so there is contact on both sides until the caliper is compressed and locked into place
  • Loosen the clamp and set aside, remove the bolts in the caliper and carefully slide it off
  • Gently slide off the rotor and replace it with a new one
  • Spray with brake cleaning spray, replace the brake caliper system, and test the brakes before driving
Changing out the rotors may require some level of experience—but
