Late-model
Volvos
have this warning feature, which is great. The directions below are specific to the 2021
XC90
but can be applied to other years and models—although you’ll want to consult your owner’s manual if this is the first time you’re replacing the battery.
  • Make sure the Volvo logo on the key is facing up.
  • Move the button at the top of the key fob to the right.
  • Lift off the front cover.
  • Turn over the key fob and find the small button. Move the button to the side, sliding up the rear cover.
  • Open the battery cover by inserting a small screwdriver or coin in the battery cover slot and turning counterclockwise until the marker points to Open.
  • Gently remove the battery cover and remove the battery.
  • Install the new battery with the positive side up.
  • When you replace the battery cover, make sure to turn it clockwise until the **marker lines up
  • First click the back cover into place and then the front cover.
