How do you change a BMW remote key battery?
Can you tell me how to change my BMW’s remote key battery? It’s a smart key and I’m worried I’ll accidentally break it if I open it wrong.

Absolutely! It’s great you’re being cautious as well. To change a
BMW
remote key battery, you’ll need to follow these steps:- Press the small tab or button on your key fob and remove the metal key.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the hole and carefully pry off the back cover. You can also use your key for this if you’d rather.
- Make a note of where the negative and positive terminals sit in the remote, then remove the old battery from your key fob.
- Place the new battery in your key fob in the same position to ensure that the battery terminals are lined up properly.
- Press the back cover back into place. You should hear a click when you do this.
- Replace the metal key.
- Test your key to confirm you installed the battery correctly.
However, some newer BMW key fobs are rechargeable. If you have this key fob, the battery will recharge when you drive your car. In this case, the back cover won’t come off.
