How do I remove oil from my car's AC system?

The oil in my car’s AC system seemed low, so I topped it off—except now there’s oil all over the place, and I’m pretty sure I put too much in. How can I remove this oil?

Getting excess oil in your AC system is definitely frustrating, but solvable! Removing oil from a car AC may require a bit more knowledge, so don’t be afraid to take it to a mechanic or go through your
car insurance
claims process to get the job done right. If you’re feeling adventurous, however, you can follow these steps:
  • Flush the entire system, including solvent and compressed air
  • Vacuum out the excess oil with a wet-dry vac
  • Flush the system with rubbing alcohol
  • Put oil back in the system
A working air conditioner is vital to any car, so if you can’t fix this issue, your
comprehensive coverage
or extended warranty may cover it.
