WHY YOU CAN TRUST JERRY
Jerry partners with more than 50 insurance companies, but our content is independently researched, written, and fact-checked by our team of editors and agents. We aren’t paid for reviews or other content.
To handle a 2016 Kia Soul oil reset, you need to navigate to your service menu using the buttons on your steering wheel. Reset the service interval, and your Soul will notify you when it’s time to change the oil again.
As opposed to warning lights on your dashboard, the oil life light tells you that it’s time for routine maintenance. Nothing is wrong—if you heed the warning to get the oil changed. Once you get the service done, you have to reset the system so it continues to track your mileage and issue notifications at the right interval.
The settings can be a little confusing, so we’ve put together a quick guide. Remember that basic maintenance can help prevent a lot of problems, but a great
car insurance
policy is your best protection against the unpredictable. Here’s what you need to know about a 2016 Kia Soul oil reset.

How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2016 Kia Soul

When you see the “Service Required” notification, it’s time to perform regular maintenance on your 2016 Kia Soul. Once the job is done, you’ll need to reset the light so it can keep track of how often you should get an oil change
It’s really easy to reset the oil life light on your Kia. Start by finding the DOWN arrow button on the steering wheel. Press and hold it for at least one second.
Look for the “Service Message” notice. Use the TRIP button to navigate to your desired option, then press RESET. This will reset the maintenance interval to its default setting.
The MENU button can also get you there. From “User Settings”, navigate to the “Service Interval” section. “Reset” and “OK” will lead you to “Reset Time and Distance” which will reset the service interval on your Soul.
Make sure you reset the oil life light every time you get an oil change. Otherwise, your car won’t remind you when it’s the right time to be serviced. Some mechanics know how to handle a Kia Soul oil reset, so they’ll take care of this after the oil change. If not, you can do it yourself.

How often does a 2016 Kia Soul need an oil change?

For a 2016 Soul, Kia recommends that you get an oil change every six months
While synthetic oil does last longer than conventional motor oil, it’s still a good idea to schedule regular oil changes according to the manufacturer’s recommendation to keep your Kia running smoothly.
If you don’t get an oil change
when you’re supposed to, you risk costly engine damage.
If you want to cut costs, do the oil change yourself. Consult your
owner’s manual
to learn how to change the oil on a 2016 Kia Soul. You will need basic tools like an oil pan and a socket wrench, plus a new filter and new oil. Enjoy that extra $100 you would have spent on paying someone else to change your oil!
Remember to reset the oil life light when you’re done. If you can’t get the light to go off, bring your Soul to a Kia dealer or auto shop for help.
