How do I open the gas tank on a 2012 Nissan Maxima?
I’m borrowing my dad’s car because mine is in the shop, but I can’t figure out how to open the gas tank. The worst thing is, our neighbor Ned—a notorious loudmouth—was filling up at the same time and laughing at me the whole time I was trying to open the tank. The guy didn’t even help me once he’d finished pumping his own gas—he just drove off and with the window open and yelled “good luck, sonny boooooooooooooy!” I’m never shoveling the snow off his driveway ever again. How do I open the gas tank on a 2012 Nissan Maxima?

’s fuel filler panel and the door will pop open, revealing the gas tank.Automakers have made it harder to open the fuel door in an attempt to cut down on gas theft. Still, once you learn the trick for your car, it’s easy to remember. So from now on, there’s no reason that opening the gas tank on your father’s 2012 Maxima needs to melt that spine of yours. Just follow these steps and you’ll never be embarrassed again:
- Park the Maxima and turn the engine off
- Note the gas tank icon on the cluster gauge—the arrow beside it points to the driver’s side, indicating that’s where the gas tank will found
- Exit the vehicle
- Press on the right-side of the fuel filler panel (it will pop open)
- Pump that gas like nobody’s business
