How do I not pay my car insurance deductible?

I lost my job and no longer can afford my deductible if something happens to my car. I can barely afford my current monthly payments for my insurance. What can I do?

I’m sorry to hear about your job. I hope you find something soon.
Unfortunately, you can’t get out of paying your deductible if something happens, but you can reach out to your insurance company and try to make some changes.
First, you could choose a
lower deductible
, but that may make your premiums higher.
If that’s not an option, here are a few other potential ideas:
  • See if your policy requires you to pay the deductible upfront
  • Talk to your mechanic to see if you can work out a payment plan
  • Take out a payday loan, but you’ll have to pay back the loan with interest
  • Wait to file your
    claim
—before you do this, check with your state and provider to see how long you have to make a claim
Another choice you have is to start shopping around for car insurance to see if you can get a better deal.
