How do I know if my car is properly insured?

My parents have always bought my insurance, but a coming-out announcement that went very poorly, they kicked me off their policy. I have a basic idea of how to buy insurance, and right now I'm just focused on doing everything I can to get my life back on track. How can I make sure that my car is properly insured?

“I am so, so sorry that happened to you. You didn’t deserve it—but I’m glad I can help. The easiest way to find out if you have proper car insurance is to either call your insurance company or read over your
car insurance declaration page
. Both will outline the type of coverage that you have.
If you’re financing the vehicle, note that you’ll need full coverage, which includes:
  • Liability coverage
, which covers damages to any third parties, or to their property, in accidents where you’re at fault.
  • Collision coverage
, which covers collisions of any kind, including accidents where you are at fault.
  • Comprehensive coverage
, which covers any incidents that you had no way of preventing, such as lightning, snowstorms, falling trees, etc.
No matter what kind of coverage you need, if you’ve been cut off, you should definitely look into whether or not switching providers could save you money. The simplest way to do this is with the
Jerry
app—we’ll get you personalized quotes from top providers instantly, so all you have to worry about is choosing the plan that works best for your budget.
Good luck with everything—and keep your chin up. You’ve got this.”
