We’re so sorry to hear that, but we’re glad you’re safe! Now that you’ve gotten over the initial shock, there are a few steps to take to make sure you get compensated.
First, after an accident, file a claim with your insurance company. Each insurance company has steps you’ll need to follow, so make sure you’re adhering to the policy of your provider. If you were not at fault, the other party’s insurance will likely cover your expenses, but there are some states that are no-fault states in which your insurance will cover you regardless of who’s at fault.
Most likely, both the insurance companies of both parties (yours and the other drivers) will interview you and will try to get more information from witnesses and any cameras that caught the incident.
The insurance will pay out either be the amount needed to repair the vehicle or the vehicle’s current cash value- whichever is cheaper. If you were at fault, insurance will only pay for what is not covered by your deductible.
