France is a beautiful place for a business trip! If you need to get behind the wheel of a car in France, you’re not required to have an international driving permit (IDP), but if you want one, there are two options.
To get an international driving permit for France:
  • Visit the American Automobile Association (AAA) website at aaa.com
  • Download and complete the IDP application
  • Collect the required documents, including two passport photos, a valid U.S. driver’s license, and payment for a $20 permit fee
Once you have completed the application and collected the required documents, you can submit them in person at your local AAA branch or mail them in.
Note that if you choose to mail in your application, it can take more than three weeks to receive your IDP—so you may not have it in time for your trip. If you submit your application in person, it’s typically ready within 24 hours.
If you’re driving a car in France, you also want to make sure you have valid insurance that keeps you protected overseas. Rather than stressing about finding the right policy, let
