How do I change a Honda Civic key battery?

The key fob for my Honda Civic stopped working, and now I have to unlock the door by hand. It’s kind of annoying, but the real problem is I keep forgetting to lock all the doors without the remote. How can I change the key battery for my Honda Civic?

Luckily, changing a
Honda Civic
key battery is easy.
First, figure out what battery you need. Most
Honda
keys use a CR2025 battery, but you should verify. Once you have your battery, take the following steps:
  • Push the button to release the internal metal key and slide the key out
  • Use a flathead screwdriver (or similar) to pry the case open
  • Take a photo of the battery so you can remember how it’s placed
  • Remove the dead battery
  • Install the new battery (refer to your photo if necessary)
  • Align the halves of the key fob and apply pressure until you hear them snap together.
You’re done! Your Honda Civic key battery is changed and the key fob should be working now. No more annoying manual locking!
