The 2022 Honda Accord’s engine oil capacity varies depending on which engine it has. Accounting for the filter, the base 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder has an oil capacity of 3.7 quarts, the upgraded 2.0-liter turbo takes 5.1 quarts, and the hybrid engine takes 4 quarts.
Regardless of the engine, the Accord requires 0W-20 full-synthetic oil. Honda recommends changing an Accord’s engine oil every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. The owner’s manual should contain more information regarding your Honda’s regular maintenance schedule.

2022 Honda Accord engine oil capacity
If you have a 2022 Honda Accord LX
, Sport
, Sport SE
, or EX-L
, then you should have the 1.5-liter engine, which has an engine oil capacity of 3.7 quarts including the filter. If you have a Sport 2.0T or Touring 2.0T, then you have the larger engine, with an oil capacity of 5.1 quarts.
Finally, if you have a 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid
, it takes 4 quarts of oil. What kind of oil does a 2022 Honda Accord need?
Honda recommends using 0W-20 Honda Genuine Ultimate Full Synthetic Motor Oil for a 2022 Honda Accord, but any full-synthetic 0W-20 oil should do the trick.
Don’t worry too much if you don’t understand what “0W-20” means. To explain briefly, the “W” stands for “Winter.” The number before it is the oil’s viscosity rating at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The next number is the viscosity rating at 212 degrees, the standard operating temperature of a conventional engine.
How often to change the oil in a 2022 Honda Accord
Since you should be using synthetic oil, you’ll be due for an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. You may receive a notification on your Accord’s dash that you’re due for an oil change around the 6,000-mile mark. However, to be safe, you should check your oil at least once a month.
Here are some signs to look out for that might suggest you’re overdue for an oil change:
Oil is dark and opaque. Oil should look translucent. If it’s not, that probably means it’s dirty and old.
Oil is gritty/coarse to the touch. When you’re checking your oil, rub a bit of it between your fingers to see if it feels muddy.
Your engine is producing worrisome noises and/or smells.
In general, reduced engine performance should prompt you to check your oil.
How to change your oil and oil filter
Changing your own oil is a great way to save money and familiarize yourself with basic car care. If you want to try changing your Honda Accord’s oil yourself, you’ll want to have the following supplies:
3.7, 4, or 5.1 quarts (depending on the model) of 0W-20 full-synthetic oil
If you have all of those things ready, then it’s time to change the oil! First off, start your engine, and let it run for 5 minutes. This will make the oil more viscous and speed up the draining process. Don’t forget to turn the engine back off before moving on to the next steps:
Pop open the hood, find your oil fill cap, remove it, and put it somewhere safe.
Find the oil drain on the undercarriage of the car. Place the oil drain pan under it so that it will catch the draining oil.
For this next step, be prepared for a mess. Unscrew the oil drain bolt with your socket wrench and remove the washer.
Next, make sure the oil is draining into the pan. You might need to move it to a new spot.
Once you notice the oil draining less quickly, you can unscrew the old oil filter and replace it with the new one. Follow any instructions provided with the filter.
Make sure all of the old oil has drained, then reattach the oil drain bolt with a new washer. Tighten the bolt to 30 lb-ft.
Prepare the correct volume of new synthetic 0W-20 oil and your funnel. Put the funnel in the oil fill opening, and then pour the oil into the funnel. Then, reattach the oil fill cap.
Almost there! Turn your car on for a minute to let that new oil flow, then turn it off and use the dipstick to check your oil level. Also, make sure to check for oil leaks.
Pro Tip NEVER put dirty oil in the garbage or dump it on the ground. Old oil should be poured into sealable containers and recycled. Drop it off at an auto body shop or auto parts store.
