How can you find your car insurance provider?
Where do you look for insurance information? I’m moving back to Boston this year to live with my mother and I’ll be taking over her finances. Everything seems to be going smoothly—except I can’t seem to find any of her car insurance information anywhere.

Finding her car insurance provider will likely just take a bit of hunting. If you have access to bank statements, this is the best place to start. You’ll want to look for payments to common big-name insurance companies or line items with the word insurance in them.
If you can’t seem to find anything in bank statements, look in the car and around the house. Be sure to check:
- The car’s glove box
- The trunk
- The garage
- File cabinets or storage containers
- Email and regular mail
Since you’re in Boston, you may find the insurance information included with the vehicle’s registration. The state of Massachusetts is among the few that actually include

information on registration documents.If you have no luck with the car or the bank, you may want to try the Secretary of State. Oftentimes, these offices will track car insurance coverage. You can get in contact with the office by phone, explain your situation, and ask about the car insurance.
