How can I know if I’m getting treated fairly when using dealership financing?

Is there any way to get a good deal when using dealer financing? I am going to be buying a car for the first time in a few days. I don’t really know much about the process and I have heard that a lot of people get taken advantage of when using dealer financing.

“1. Always get pre-approval from a bank and keep that option in your back pocket.
  1. Never talk about monthly payments or what you can afford on a monthly basis. Unless you are really good at doing math in your head on the spot, this means going into negotiations knowing your budget and not deviating from that budget at all.
