How can I get rental car liability insurance for an eight-week road trip?

How much is liability insurance for a rental car? I don’t have a car or personal auto insurance, but I’m going on a road trip soon so I will need to rent a car. The only insurance I have is collision coverage on my credit card.

“Sounds like a fun adventure! You have a couple of options if you’re going on a long road trip and don’t have personal car insurance:
If you rent a vehicle infrequently, for only short periods of time, rental car liability coverage is a good choice. From $13–$19 per day, this covers damages to other people’s property and other people’s medical bills in the event of an accident you cause.
You can purchase rental car liability coverage directly from the rental car company. However, note that this type of insurance will not cover you, your passengers, or the rental car.
If you will continue to rent or borrow a vehicle regularly after the road trip, you should consider getting non-owners insurance. In addition to what’s covered by
liability protection
, this type of policy would generally provide medical payments coverage for yourself in the event of an accident.
