Does USAA renters insurance cover pet damage?

My Pomeranian is a menace! He got out of his crate and proceeded to rip up a large chunk of my apartment’s wall-to-wall carpeting. My friend who’s a contractor says I’ll need to install a new carpet—or at least pay for replacing the carpet when I leave. Does USAA renters insurance cover pet damage?

Oh no! I’m sure your Pomeranian didn’t mean it. Unfortunately, your USAA renters policy won’t cover the cost of replacing the carpet. Pet damage is not considered a standard peril under home and renters insurance policies.
However, had your Pomeranian bit a neighbor, you’d likely be covered under your USAA renters policy’s liability insurance or medical insurance. (Not that your Pom-Pom would ever bite anyone, of course!)
So, like many other pet parents, you’ll have to assume responsibility for your Pomeranian’s damage. But she’s worth it, isn’t she?
