Does home insurance cover my fridge?
We came home yesterday to find a huge pile of water beneath the fridge. It must be some kind of refrigerator leak. Will my home insurance cover my fridge?

Oof, a leaky fridge! It’s super unpleasant to find an unexpected pool of water on the floor. If it’s just a leak, your home insurance may cover your fridge.
However, homeowners insurance typically covers damage from the leak and not the source of the leak itself. Damage to your floors and nearby objects may be covered if you can prove it was caused by the leak, but they likely won’t replace your fridge unless a
covered peril
directly damaged it. Additionally, if the leak was caused by age, lack of maintenance, or normal wear and tear, you won’t have any coverage under your home insurance.
To find out whether your fridge has coverage under your home insurance, contact your provider. If it is you’ll want to document the damage with photos and descriptions of the water damage.
It’s also worth finding out whether your refrigerator itself is faulty. If it is still under warranty, you could get it repaired or replaced without having to use your home insurance and risk a potential rate increase.
