Do my tax dollars pay for electric car charging?

I’ve noticed more and more electric vehicle charging stations being built around my city, and I was wondering where the funding for this kind of infrastructure is coming from. Are taxpayer dollars being used to fund electric car charging?

While some
electric car
charging stations are free to use, they’re not being funded by taxpayer dollars. Typically a free electric car charging station might be installed by business owners, property owners, and workplaces to either encourage patronage of their business or as a perk for tenants and employees.
As of February 2, 2022, however, the Biden Administration announced plans for a total of $7.5 billion to go towards building a nationwide network of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers. This plan is one small piece of a larger effort to build out more eco-friendly infrastructure and to ensure that clean transportation is accessible to all Americans.
The Department of Transportation also released a free
guide
for those in rural communities to help them take advantage of the federal funding for electric vehicle charging stations.
