Do most Westies like to travel in a car?

I added a West Highland terrier to my family recently. We haven’t tried a car trip longer than 20 minutes yet, but I’m about to drive for 5.5 hours to visit some friends and he’s coming with me. Do Westies like car rides?

Yes, most Westies like to travel in a car—as long as their owner is with them! If your dog is a particularly nervous one, however, it might take some time for him to get used to driving with you.
Try driving around with him for practice in longer and longer increments before you leave so you can get a feel for how he behaves in the car. Make sure that he’s
properly restrained
, but try to keep the environment calm and relaxed.
If your dog becomes agitated, you can always discuss medication with your vet to make the drive better for both of you.
