Do electric cars get carpool privileges in Washington State?
Just checking—I’m not from Washington, but I visit often, and I’m always unsure about whether or not I can drive my electric car in the HOV lane. Do electric vehicles get carpool privileges in Washington State?

Great question—but unfortunately, Washington State is still one of the places in America that doesn’t offer carpool lane access to electric cars.
Many other states have adopted carpool lane access and other incentives like cash, tax breaks, and service perks to encourage the purchase of electric cars. While Washington State does have incentives available to its citizens, they haven’t got around to including HOV lane access.
This may still be something we may see in the future because they currently have initiatives to increase the electric car infrastructure. The State plans to add more charging stations and incentivize builders to create and include electric car charging in their projects. This looks like a good indication that they could one day follow suit and allow for carpool access.
