Can you eat while driving in Georgia?

I’m currently driving through Georgia on my way down to Disney World, and my family and I wanted to stop by a local burger shop. We’re hoping to make it to Disney World by this evening, so I don’t want to lose time sitting inside the restaurant when we could be on the road. Is it legal to eat while I drive in Georgia?

I’ve been there—there’s nothing like the joy of stopping to get food after spending hours on the road.
While technically, you can eat while driving in
Georgia
, you might want to give yourself a little window to stop and enjoy your meal before getting back on the road.
Georgia law (
Code 40-6-241
) states that drivers shall not engage in any actions which may distract them. This applies to all forms of
distracted driving
, which may include eating behind the wheel.
If you get pulled over, you could face a $50 fine for your first distracted driving offense or a $100 fine if you’re a repeat offender. Not to mention the fact that eating while driving can pose a safety hazard for you, your passengers, and your vehicle.
