Can I have an interpreter with me during my driving test?

English isn’t my first language, and even though I can read and write, I am still worried about getting confused during my driving test and failing it. Can I have my interpreter with me during my driving test?

We understand that taking a test in your non-native language can be challenging and confusing. Unfortunately, though, bringing in your own interpreter is not allowed during driving tests due to cheating concerns. However, some states offer driving tests in languages other than English, including:
  • Spanish
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • Korean
  • Arabic
  • French
If you are simply nervous, you may not need an interpreter but just a little extra support! In many cases, you can have a friend or family member with you to ease some of the stress. Don’t worry, you’ve got this!
And once you safely pass that test, if you want to boost your overall confidence on the road you should try taking a
defensive driving course
