Are Volkswagen SUVs reliable?

I love Volkswagens and am considering buying one of their SUVs. Are they reliable?

Good on you for doing your due diligence before purchasing! Volkswagen SUVs are not known for being particularly reliable. The car manufacturer’s best-selling SUV, the Tiguan, earns a predicted reliability score of 76/100 by J.D. Power, which is considered average.
Volkswagen produces the following SUVs:
  • ID.4: All-electric SUV, 2023 model starts at 37,495
  • Atlas: Mid-size SUV that seats up to seven, starts at $34,600
  • Atlas Cross Sport: Mid-size crossover SUV that seats five, starts at $33,910
  • Taos: Compact crossover SUV, starts at $24,155
  • Tiguan: Compact SUV, starts at $26,590
According to RepairPal, Volkswagen’s overall reliability rating is 3.5/5, which ranks it 12th out of 32 total car brands.
If you want an SUV with top reliability ratings, you might consider the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Soul, or Kia Telluride instead.
