Are electric cars made in Europe?
I know that Tesla has some production plants in California, and now in Texas, but are electric cars made in Europe? Maybe it’s a split between a few countries, but I’m not really sure.

Electric cars are made in Europe, but not only in Europe. Right now, Europe produces about 25% of the world’s electric cars, with the U.S. producing 20%, and China producing 40%—more than any other country.
There’s a reason why the U.S. isn’t leading the pack in terms of producing electric cars including:
- The fact thatAmerican driversare still on the fence about the high cost of owning an EV, and with an average range of about 350 miles, they’re also concerned about having to constantly recharge their vehicle, too.
- China and Europe have an infrastructure system that’s better suited to support EV technology, which means more charging ports for the public. However, the U.S. is working quickly to implement changes to our national grid that will allow us to transition to using electric cars more quickly.
- China and many other Asian countries produce a lot of the manufacturing parts needed to make EVs. This means that, for American car companies, it’s cheaper to have much of our EV technology made overseas. This is something that theBiden Administrationis pushing hard to amend, meaning more EVs will be built here in the U.S. in the future.
