background
The unveiling of the
Tesla
Cybertruck sparked excitement for electric pickup trucks in the auto industry. Tesla enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting for the Cybertruck to finally be released.
It didn’t take long before other automakers like General Motors and Rivian announced plans to produce electric pickups. Tesla is trying to stand out from the competition by introducing special features in the final design such as rear-wheel steering, as reported by

The Tesla Cybertruck will feature rear-wheel steering

Last year, General Motors announced that the Hummer EV would have a Crab Mode: a steering system that enables the truck to move diagonally in a straight line. The Rivian R1T will be able to make a 360-degree turn, usually known as a tank turn, boosted by its four individual motors in each wheel.
For the latest and final design of the Cybertruck, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that the vehicle will have rear-wheel steering. Like the Crab Mode and R1T tank turns, rear-wheel steering will help drivers maneuver the truck and get through tight U-turns or tricky terrain.
The Tesla Cybertruck is a large vehicle, making it difficult to steer in or out of some parking lots. By adding rear-wheel steering, buyers might be able to drive the Cybertruck more easily.

Excellent range and performance

Tesla models have some of the best performance compared to other cars in the electric vehicle market. As the first company to venture into making electric vehicles, Tesla is experienced in battery technology and EV production. This has helped Tesla gain an edge against its rivals, especially legacy automakers like General Motors.
The
Tesla
Cybertruck Tri Motor AWD has an estimated range of 500 miles or more and can go from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds.
The
GMC
Hummer EV has an estimated range of 350 miles and a 0-60 mph time of three seconds. In January 2022,
Rivian
plans to offer an R1T with 400 miles of range. Their current R1T model promises 300 miles of range and the same three-second 0-60 mph acceleration time as the Hummer EV.

High towing and payload capabilities

Pickup trucks are designed to tow heavy objects, and Tesla's Cybertruck has set new limits for towing capability. The Cybertruck has a payload capacity of 3,500 pounds and a towing capacity of more than 14,000 pounds.
The Rivian R1T has a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds with a maximum payload of 1,760 pounds. However, when you’re towing at full capacity, you can expect high battery drainage and a 50% reduction in range. The towing capacity of the Hummer EV has not yet been announced, but it’ll have to be able to compete with its rivals.

Tesla will be a tough competitor in the electric truck market

The production of electric trucks continues to gain momentum. More and more automakers have committed to electrifying their future lineups, and the competition continues to increase.
The performance of the Tesla Cybertruck will be attractive to many consumers. But, the Ford F-150 Lightning and other electric truck startups will continue to fight for dominance in the market.
