background
Car accidents
are pretty scary, and even if there aren’t any injuries they can leave someone overwhelmed and panicked. To help make the post-wreck process as painless as possible,
Lexus
has introduced a new service.
According to a
press release
from Lexus, the service is called Collision Assistance, and it’s designed to make the moments following a collision easier and more efficient.
Only some drivers will be able to use this new part of the Lexus app.

What should you do after a car accident?

Regardless of who’s at fault or the extent of the damage, car accidents are complicated. Making sure that everyone is okay is the first and most important step. After this though, there’s a lot to do to make sure that everything is properly taken care of.
The primary goal following an accident is to get your vehicle back on the road again. To get to this point, those involved in an accident need to file a claim with their insurance and find a mechanic to repair the damage if needed.
To make this process quicker, it requires one to be thorough with documenting the accident and prompt with their filing. The issue here is that the stress of an accident often leads to those involved feeling stressed and miss important steps.
As
CNET
points out, helping drivers make this process easier was Toyota's motivation behind Collision Assistance.

The Lexus Collision Assistance app is designed to walk a driver through the post-collision process. The program is through the
Lexus
app, which now has an option for Collision Assistance.
Once users are in the Collision Assistance part of the app, it takes them through the process of documenting the crash. People will go through a step-by-step process of taking photos, explaining the circumstances of the crash, and filing an insurance claim.
Collision Assistance even shows users a list of mechanics in the area to contact for repairs.
The program takes the post-collision process and its many steps and streamlines it into one app so drivers feel confident knowing they didn’t miss anything.

Who can use the Lexus Collision Assistance feature?

This new program from Toyota and Lexus could be a major step forward in improving
safety
through technology. However, not every Toyota or Lexus owner will be able to make use of it.
According to CNET, a driver will have to be subscribed to Safety Connect, and only vehicles from 2018 or later are qualified for this. So Collision Assistance will only be available to owners of
newer Lexus
and Toyota vehicles, limiting the amount drivers that can use it.
Even though its usage is limited right now, Collision Assistance offers a helpful and innovative way to navigate through the confusion following a wreck. If Collision Assistance is successful, more programs like this may become available to a wider market.
Apps like Collision Assistance provide drivers a new resource in dealing with aspects of car ownership that we used to have to tackle alone. Collision Assistance can help you file an insurance claim, but it can’t improve your insurance coverage. This is where
