Lexus is taking a new design approach to its electric vehicles

The first electric vehicle from Lexus

Lexus, owned by Toyota, debuted its first electric vehicle in 2019 called the UX 300e. However, this model was only available in China and Europe.
Autoblog
reported that the UX 300e was merely a compliance car, meaning it was only produced to meet environmental regulations in China and the European Union. The new EV from Lexus will be a stronger attempt from the company to capture a part of the global EV market.

The design of the new Lexus EV

Lexus plans to launch its new EV model, which hasn’t been named yet, in America by 2022.
Autocar
reported that the EV will be a crossover that’s about the same size as the best-selling Lexus NX. It’ll also be closely related to the production version of
Toyota’s bZ4X concept
.
Both the bZ4X and new Lexus EV will be built on the e-TNGA platform, but the electric Lexus will have a specific design inspired by the LF-Z Electrified concept.
The Lexus EV will keep the spindle grille, but it’ll be more of a trim piece than an air vent. The crossover will also feature a wide rear light bar, angular LED headlights, and a new logo across the trunk lid.
Lexus’s first dedicated EV will sit lower on the ground than existing SUVs with a stance that’s focused on performance. These styling cues will start to appear on other Lexus models in the upcoming years.
The e-TNGA was developed by Toyota and Subaru, and the new EV will be the first Lexus to use it. Lexus hopes that this new era of design of technological innovations will help expand the company’s sales.

The future of Lexus EVs

The future of cars is expected to change quite a bit this decade, and Lexus wants to remain competitive. To do this, they need to focus on their EV lineup. Lexus aims to have 10 electric models by 2025.
You can likely expect to see Lexus EVs provide some level of autonomous driving. The brand will continue to improve its EV technology and design to compete with other automakers.
