We agree that
EVsare what’s next in the automobile industry. Unfortunately, most come at a cost too high for many would-be buyers to afford.
That was the situation—until Kandi came into the picture. Kandi Technologies Group, Inc. is a Chinese EV automobile maker that makes small electric vehicles, allowing consumers to own an EV at a fraction of the price of those from leading brands. With
gas prices rising, this could be a great way to
save moneyand go electric. Let's explore the available models and their costs.
What is the performance of Kandi compared to other EVs?
HotCarsexplains, the Kandi is a sub-compact electric vehicle built for convenience rather than speed and high performance. It runs on a lithium battery that only provides about 49 kWh and has an output of just 65 hp. This is way lower than the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range, which produces 221 hp, although it has a comparable 50 kWh battery.
When it comes to speed, Kandi reaches a top speed of about 72 mph, half of what most competitors can provide. For example, the
Tesla Model 3can hit up to 162 mph speeds.
However, it has all the looks and feel of a good EV. For example, the model K27 has four seats, a 9-inch touchscreen, built-in audio, Bluetooth, and a backup camera. On the flip side, the vehicle only has an EPA range of 160 kilometers, with 127 MPGe city and 102 mpg highway.
There are only two models of Kandi
At the moment, Kandi has only released two models onto the market. It first released the K27 in April 2020 before announcing the arrival of the second model two months later and calling it the K23. Since then, the automaker has been improving them with every release.
Again, unlike other automakers that have been releasing various EV line-ups, Kandi is content with just two models and has simplified options for people who would like to enter the electric market with a basic vehicle. According to
The Driven, the K23 is the better one of the two as it runs on a 41.4 kWh battery and has an extended range of 302 kilometers, nearly twice that of the K27.
The price of a Kandi EV
On the other hand, the K23 costs $20,000. It is also expected to sell higher, at about $30,000, if you are not among the first 1,000 to buy the model. This means that it will be sold for $22,500 after applying the tax credit. Both vehicles have an eight-year warranty and a 50,000-mile basic guarantee.
