Volkswagen's Electric Cars Are Sold Out in the U.S. and In Europe
Updated on Jun 11, 2022 · 4 min read
If you're planning to purchase a Volkswagen electric vehicle this year in the United States or Europe, you may have to shelf this plan because the automaker reports it has already sold out these vehicles in the stated regions.
Nonetheless, the backlog of orders for electric cars is not only facing the VW group but also other EV manufacturers. Jerry has sufficient information about Volkswagen EVs.
Why are Volkswagen's electric vehicles sold out?
ARS Technica reports that the global chip shortage, soaring demand for EVs, supply chain issues, and the effects of the COVID-19 shutdowns in many parts of the globe are to blame for the unmet demand for VW EVs.
Besides the global microchip shortage and increased demand for EVs, the war in Ukraine is also to blame because the company relies on several parts suppliers based in the country.
During the first quarter of 2022, Volkswagen reported it had sold about 100,000 EVs, countering a third of Tesla sales in the same period. Despite the supply issues in Volkswagen, the company is still receiving orders for the U.S. and Europe and expects to fulfill them starting in early 2023.
According to CNN Business, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said most of its EVs are sold out because of increased demand and that the automaker can build enough vehicles.
He also reported that the company has a backlog of about 300,000 EV orders for Western Europe, but these customers will receive their cars in the coming year.
The Volkswagen electric vehicle will be available in 2023
According to Volkswagen CEO, Diess, the global microchip shortage, and supply chain issues have limited the number of EVs the company can make in 2022. Initially, the company has planned to make 700, 000 EVs in 2022, but this will not be possible.
The Financial Times reports that EVs from the different Volkswagen brands, including Audi, Ducati, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Porsche, will be unavailable for the remaining part of the year.
Nonetheless, this trend will change in 2023. Although the company expects the backlog of EV orders to increase year-round it'll meet the demand in the coming year.
Volkswagen 2022 EVs that are already sold out
Because of the high demand for EVs in Europe and the U.S., most of Volkswagen's EVs, including ID.4, Audi e-tron, e-tron Sportback, and Porsche Taycan, will be available throughout the year. The following are some Volkswagen EVs that are already sold out in 2022.
The Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV is in its second model in 2022, and this EV comes with several changes, including a higher range and other features aimed at improving charging.
You can expect to purchase this EV starting at $42,425 for the Pro model and $46,925 for the Pro S model.
The ID.4 offers remarkable electrical efficiency and real-world range. It also comes with a spacious interior and sufficient small-item storage.
This model will include a 135-kW DC fast charging, a significant change from the previous model 125Kw, which means you'll spend less time in the charging station.
We don't have major changes on the Audi e-tron 2022. The Audi-etron boasts impressive cabin materials, a smooth ride, and premium features.
One of the key differences between the 2021 and 2022 models is that the Chronos Edition trim will replace the Prestige trim. The 2022 Audi e-tron has a starting price of $65,900, which is considered slightly higher than the average price for a luxury electric SUV.
You can also consider purchasing the Audi e-tron Sportback starting from $69,100. This electric car presents excellent performance, quick charging times, ample interior space, a refined cabin, and posh seats for a comfy ride.
The Porsche Taycan 4S is a sport, luxury electric sedan and one of the best EVs on the road. This EV comes in different models, including Porsche Taycan base, 4S, GTS, Turbo, and Turbo S, and you can purchase your favorite model starting at $84,050 to $186,350.
Based on EPA estimates, the Taycan 4S base model has a range of 200 miles, while its larger battery model can go for 227 miles. The vehicle is packed with impressive interior finishes and build quality.
It also includes fast-charging capability, rapid acceleration, and hunkered down handling. The 2022 Taycan 4S, GTS, and Turbo models have new performance-based GTS trim shots.
