background
The Tesla Model Y is capable of clipping off a quarter mile in just 12.1 seconds. While it won’t be setting any records, that still makes it one of the faster production cars on the road today.
When it comes to speed and performance, most drivers don’t go looking for an SUV to satisfy their need for speed. But Teslas are nothing if not fast, so it makes sense that the Model Y compact crossover EV would be one of the fastest on the market.

How fast is the Tesla Model Y in the quarter mile?

The Tesla Model Y is capable of completing the quarter mile in just over 12 seconds—12.1 to be exact. The Model Y certainly isn’t breaking any records, but it’s faster than many sports cars and supercars currently in production.

How much horsepower does the Tesla Model Y have?

The Tesla Model Y is available in two trims, each with its own dual-motor all-electric powertrain. The Standard Range was removed from the lineup for the 2022 Model year, making the Long Range the entry-level trim. The Model Y Long Range’s motors combine to develop 346 horsepower and 388 lb-ft of torque
As the name suggests, the Performance trim is geared more toward high thrills and engine action, so its larger dual motors are capable of churning out 450 horses with 471 lb-ft of torque.

What is the top speed of a Tesla Model Y?

Can anything beat a Tesla Model Y?

Yes—but not many EV crossovers.
The Model Y isn’t even the fastest Tesla, but that doesn’t mean it’s easily beaten in its segment. The only EV crossover to best the Model Y in the quarter mile is the Rivian R1S with a standing quarter-mile time of just 11.8 seconds.
Several of the Model Y’s other competitors come close to matching it for speed in the quarter mile, but the R1S is the only one to take the crown—so far. Here are the quarter-mile times for some of the Model Y’s biggest EV crossover competitors:
