Rivian service centers open in major U.S. cities

Moto News Today
explains that despite job cuts, missed delivery dates, and production woes out the wazoo, Rivian has opened 21
EV service centers
in major U.S. cities. Some of the primary locations for these new facilities include Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, and Orlando.
There are also EV service centers opening in Canada this fall as well. It’s a move that’s been somewhat of a surprise, as Rivian doesn’t even have retail locations, instead using an order and delivery system.
Despite choosing to set up physical service centers, though, not all of Rivian’s customer assistance will take place in person.

Virtual Service Appointments will be a reality for Rivian customers

Thanks to the fact that Rivian’s vehicles are connected to a cloud service, many of the software repairs required by customers will be able to be completed virtually. This is a huge benefit for Rivian customers, who won’t have to worry about visiting a physical service center.
But for locations that don’t have a physical service center nearby, or situations that require an in-person technician, Rivian has begun to mobilize technicians that will drive to the customer’s house to complete repairs.

What else is next for Rivian?

Rivian announced recently that it had discontinued its most affordable trim option for the R1T, as
CNN
reports. The Explore package, which was previously the base model, has been canceled, as only a small percentage of buyers chose it.
It’s the latest blunder from Rivian, as they are already behind on orders, and have no doubt dashed the hopes of anyone who did order the Explore trim option. But Rivian argues that it’s for the best, and that “by focusing on the Adventure trim package, we're able to streamline our supply chain and ultimately deliver vehicles more quickly."
