Rivian plans to develop a facility in Georgia, despite their losses

The setback created by this Rivian court case isn’t the first; it’s been one disaster after another for Amazon’s favorite EV maker. But still—they have their hearts set on developing in Georgia, and apparently, Georgia officials are also disappointed.
A joint statement released by the Georgia Department of Economic Development and officials from Jasper, Morgan, Newton, and Walton counties indicated that they “remain undeterred in our efforts to bring high-paying, American manufacturing jobs to Georgia, and are currently assessing all legal options."

Why is this Rivian court case so important?

Rivian likely has a strategic reason related to their proposed Georgia facility, but this Rivian court case also indicates more.
Rivian needs more facilities in the U.S., especially if their vehicles are going to qualify for the new EV tax credit changes that are affecting all vehicle manufacturers. Though they already have a major facility in Normal, IN, it’s probably not enough to ramp up production.
The Rivian court case is just a stepping stone; eventually,
Rivian and Amazon
will find the perfect place to build the $5 billion dollar site they’ve long been planning for.
