2022 Lexus NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid

While there are definitely more affordable and practical electric and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) on the market, none of them hold a candle to the 2022 Lexus NX 450h+ when it comes to power, fuel economy, and warranty coverage.
The 450h+’s futuristic hybrid engine isn’t the only out-of-this-world feature the model has to offer. A sheer technological tour-de-force, the 2022 Lexus NX 450h+ is one of the most desirable luxury PHEVs on the market today. This ride is sleek, stylish, and decked out tip-to-tail with the latest infotainment and driver assistance technology Lexus has to offer.

Pricing

The 2022 Lexus NX 450h+ is a luxury vehicle. If that wasn’t clear from its impeccable styling and plush interior comforts, then its starting price tag of $65,050 is a dead giveaway. The enhanced 450h+ Premium trim increases to $70,650 while the 450h+ F Sport rounds out the trio of PHEVs at $76,150. While that might sound pricey, compared to other luxury PHEVs and all-electric models from brands like
BMW
and
Tesla
, it’s actually relatively affordable!
And keep in mind—every new Lexus RX 450h+ PHEV comes alongside a $7,500 in federal tax credit!

Performance and fuel economy

A 2.5-liter inline four cylinder engine joins an electric motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CTV) to power the 2022 Lexus NX 450h+ PHEV. Not only does the combination offer the model impressive horsepower and torque outputs of 304-hp and 227 lb-ft respectively, but it also results in best-in-class fuel economy ratings.
On gasoline alone the EPA estimates that the 450h+ offers a combined fuel economy of 36 mpg, while the model’s fuel economy rockets to 84 MPGe when the gas-powered engine and electric motor work in tandem.
Because the Lexus NX 450h+ is a plug-in hybrid rather than a standard hybrid model, it can also run for short periods of time on just its electric power. The 450h+ is rated for 37 miles of electric-only travel before the gasoline kicks in, blowing its competition—like the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e and BMW X3 xDrive30e PHEVs—out of the water.
Another key feature of any PHEV is how long they take to charge. With a standard 120-volt or 3.3kW charger, you’ll be happy to know that the 2022 Lexus NX 450h+ charges completely in just under four hours. That being said, drivers have the option to purchase an enhanced 6.6kW (240-volt) On-board charger for $800 that can charge the 450h+ in just over two hours

Exterior styling

The 2022 Lexus RX 450h+’s luxury roots are undeniably evident in the model’s exterior styling, which includes chrome molding, chrome bumper and grille garnishes, and silver roof rails. Additionally, the model is available in eight exterior paint colors: Eminent White, Atomic Silver, Cloudburst Gray, Caviar, Redline, Cadmium Orange, Nori Green Pearl, and Grecian Water.

Interior and comfort

The Lexus 450h+’s interior is rounded out by dual-zone front climate control, an interior air filtration system, dual illuminating vanity mirrors and heated Tahara leather front seats. The Premium trim adds a glass sunroof with electronic tilt and slide while the F Sport trim adds F SPORT smooth leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, heated outer rear seats, and ventilated front seats

Technology

When it comes to technology, there is nothing that the 2022 Lexus RX 450h+ doesn't feature, be it in terms of infotainment or driver assistance. Standard driver assistance features on the base 450h+Executive trim include, but are not limited to:
  • Lexus Safety System +

  • Dynamic radar cruise control
  • Traction control
  • Electronic power steering
  • Electronically controlled braking-regeneration

But the tech doesn’t stop there! The 450h+ Executive trim also features a 9.8-inch infotainment touchscreen display (or 14 inches on the Premium and F Sport trims) that is equipped with the following infotainment features:
  • Bluetooth
  • eCall emergency response system
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Lexus Link Cloud-based navigation
  • Lexus Link Connect
Higher trim levels add a Panoramic View Monitor, Lexus Link Pro Embedded Hybrid Navigation, and a head-up display to the Lexus NX 450h+.

Warranty coverage

Unlike standard gas-powered models, having reliable warranty coverage for your Lexus NX’s hybrid powertrain is vital. Thankfully, Lexus offers an unbeatable warranty coverage package on all new models, including the 2022 NX 450h+ PHEV. The package includes:
  • Basic warranty:  4 years or 50,000 miles
  • Drivetrain warranty: 6 years or 70,000 miles
  • Rust warranty: 6 years (no mileage limit)
  • Hybrid components warranty: 5 years (no mileage limit)
  • Roadside assistance warranty: 4 years (no mileage limit)

Trim levels and options

There are three trim level options available on the 2022 Lexus NX 450h+: the Executive, Premium, and F Sport. The base Executive trim is incredibly well-equipped, with bi-LED headlights, privacy glass, blind-spot monitoring, Tahara leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 9.8-inch touchscreen display, and an electric lift and close tailgate.
The Premium trim upgrades with a 14-inch touchscreen display, a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM), and a glass sunroof with electric tilt/slide. Finally, the top F Sport trim trades out the Executive’s Tahara leather for F SPORT smooth leather upholstery, and adds heated rear outer seats, a heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats.
Lexus NX 450h+ drivers also have the option to purchase a series of addition features, regardless of trim, including:
  • A 6.6kW On-board charger ($800)
  • Smartphone Convenience Package ($450)
  • Vision Package ($1070)
  • Towing Package ($160)

The bottom line

The 2022 Lexus NX 450h+ PHEV is the perfect choice for any tech-savvy, environmentally conscious driver who’s still interested in investing in a luxury model. While there are definitely cheaper PHEVs on the market right now, none of them are as thoroughly equipped in terms of power and technology as the Lexus NX 450h+ PHEV.

2022 Lexus NX 450h+ PHEV vs. 2022 BMW X3 xDrive30e PHEV

On the other end of the spectrum we have the
BMW X3 xDrive30e
PHEV. Compared to the 2022 NX 450h+, the BMW is nearly $40,000 more upfront. This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
