Harley-Davidson has a new electric bike division
The original Livewire bike got rave reviews for its styling, performance, and build quality. But, the high price, which was $29,799, didn't please too many critics or potential buyers. So, Harley-Davidson decided to relaunch it under the name “Livewire One'' and price it at $21,999, which is approximately $8,000 less than what the original model went for.
To help offset some of the costs, the electric motorcycle does qualify for the federal tax credit program, decreasing the price by up to $2,500. That would lessen the cost to just under $20,000, making it even more appealing.
Livewire plans to produce 100,000 units by the year 2026. Also, it wants to build 190,000 bikes by 2030. If they can meet those goals, the sales figures could make the brand $1.7 billion by 2026 and a whopping $3 billion by the time 2030 rolls around.
What Livewire bikes are coming out soon?
Harley-Davidson has one other electric motorcycle in the works, set to launch really soon. The Del Mar is the next bike in the brand's electric bike lineup that should debut on the market in the second quarter of this year.
It will be the first one to have the new Arrow platform that Harley-Davidson will share with other bikes. We should also see a direct drive electric motor with this model, which is different from the Livewire One's Revelation unit.
There could also be an electric moped in the works as well. We've seen prototypes of it, but Harley-Davidson has yet to produce it. The brand claims to have designs to release some units for the S3 line that would likely offer lighter electric motorcycles.
Is it a good time for electric motorcycles?
Now would be an excellent time for Harley-Davidson to launch electric motorcycles for a couple of reasons. One, many automakers are planning to produce more electric vehicles while phasing out gasoline-powered ones.
How to save money when insuring an electric motorcycle
Purchasing an electric bike is not much different than a traditional one when it comes to protecting it with insurance. Some states do require you to have some type of policy on your bike, so finding one that's affordable is vital. However, accomplishing that is pretty tricky.
And to ensure you always have the lowest rate, Jerry will send you new quotes every time your policy comes up for renewal, so you’re always getting the coverage you want at the best price.
