Chrysler Reveals New Concepts Including Electric Minivan

. But that's a stereotype the automaker is eager to shed as it expands its EV offerings. In fact, Chrysler has an aggressive plan to offer an all-electric lineup

reported that Chrysler has no immediate plans to produce any new compact cars. (That means you can rest easy, Smartcar.) All of its upcoming vehicles are slated to be built on Stellantis' STLA Large vehicle platform. Their "go big" philosophy boils down to consumer demand, and, of course, profitability. According to Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, an
electric vehicle
costs 50% more to produce than its gas-powered counterpart. Over the next few years, the automaker has plans for electric SUVs and an electric minivan.
What we know so far about Chrysler's new electric minivan
Under Stellantis' wing, we can expect to see Chrysler's minivan offerings go through a major overhaul. When company reps spoke to MotorTrend, they made it clear they were ready to retire the "soccer mom" stereotype and
attract new minivan customers
. In other words, we can expect a "multi-purpose" vehicle that is more than just an EV Pacifica. But beyond ditching the "minivan" label and going fully electric, the public doesn't know much else at this point.
We're all left with our imaginations to fill in the gap, and that's exactly what the folks at
CarBuzz
did. They created a modern and edgy rendering of what Chrysler's "not-a-minivan" could possibly look like. CarBuzz's version is a vehicle that makes you ask, "Is that a minivan, a station wagon, or an SUV?" It sits low to the ground and has ample room for both passengers and cargo. But keep in mind this is a fun prediction, and for now, both Stellantis and Chrysler are staying quiet.
The Airflow Concept car offers a sneak peek at the future
Reimagining the minivan isn't the only EV project underway for Chrysler. The Airflow Concept car debuted at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show. History buffs may recognize the name "Airflow" as a car that Chrysler produced in the 1930s and was widely considered a flop.
Moniker aside, today's Airflow shows us what Chrysler is capable of in the EV arena. For starters, an impressive range of 350 to 400 miles is made possible by the 118-kWh battery pack.
As Roadshow revealed in their video, the Airflow is loaded with tech, including eight screens. That many screens mean that each passenger has their own, so you can attend a Zoom meeting even while stuck in traffic.
The Airflow's features are rounded out with 400 horsepower and level 3 autonomous driving capabilities. And while we have to remind ourselves that the Airflow is in production, Chrysler is clearly ready to put its best foot forward with its EV offerings.
