Being first in line for a new model can sometimes mean being subject to the first round of recalls as well. That’s unfortunately the case for buyers of the new
Lyriq electric SUV.
highly-anticipated EV
has only been on the market for a few months, but a new bug in the system has been discovered and dealerships have been ordered to stop selling them immediately.
Read on with the car ownership experts at Jerry to learn why the Lyriq is getting recalled and what it means for owners of the electrified SUV.

Why the Cadillac Lyriq is being recalled

According to
Kelley Blue Book
, General Motors discovered a software error wherein the infotainment screen suddenly goes dark. The bug won’t stop anyone from driving their Lyriq, nor is it necessarily life-threatening in an immediate sense, but it could be an unpleasant surprise for anyone not expecting it.
Much like many other newer electric vehicles, the Lyriq regularly receives
software updates
when it's not being driven. In the Lyriq, screens were going blank when owners happened to open a car door mid-update.
Dealers have been ordered to stop selling the Lyriq while Cadillac works on a solution, but owners won’t need to bring their car back to the dealership as they would for a typical recall.
Because the error is a software issue, Cadillac intends to resolve the problem via a free software update in early November. In the meantime, owners should be able to get the screen to restart by turning the vehicle on, off, and on again.

New cars often experience small glitches

While errors like the Lyriq’s infotainment screen bug can be a hassle, it’s not anything to be too worried about. New cars often come with small glitches or quirks that can be easily resolved by the automaker, and shouldn’t be anything to worry about if you’ve been considering getting a Lyriq of your own.
Other high-tech electric companies, like Tesla, also sometimes experience small glitches that are quickly solved via over-the-air software updates.
In general, the new world of over-the-air updates can make it much easier for automakers to handle recall repairs.

How to get car insurance for the Cadillac Lyriq

Manufacturers will cover any repairs or needed technology updates associated with recalls on a new car, but you will likely be on the hook for any unexpected accidents. Having a reliable car insurance plan is essential for those moments.
