Toyota offers practicality

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid starts a bit higher than its 2022 hybrid SUV competitors at $38,855 and is about $50,000 when fully loaded. Drivers will get a great resale value and plenty of standard features.
The
IIHS Top Safety Pick+
sports a .5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor. With 243 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, this SUV gets an EPA of about 35 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 hybrid starts at $30,790.The cabin can be noisy, but with a combined fuel economy of 40 mpg, it’s hard to go wrong. According to
Kelley Blue Book (KBB)
, “Compared with the regular version, the gasoline/electric drivetrain in the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid adds more muscle (219 horsepower, as opposed to 203) while improving fuel economy (by about 10 mpg on average) at the same time.”
If you opt for the LE trim, you’ll get LED headlights/daytime running lights/taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
The 2022 Toyota Venza’s size sits right between the Highlander and the RAV4. While it has an impressive safety suite, the SUV isn’t as roomy as the original Venza.
“The Venza’s hybrid powertrain features a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine with electric motors front and rear,” KBB notes. This results in a combined horsepower of 219 with power delivered to all four wheels. Passenger and cargo space isn’t compromised, as the lithium-ion battery is installed under the Venza’s rear seat.

Kia’s got soul

Starting around $35,000, the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid offers standard second-row captain’s chairs and a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The SUV outputs 227 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque.
The hybrid also now offers an all-wheel-drive powertrain and standard rear occupant alert. However, if you need a towing vehicle, just know that the Sorento can only tow about 2,000 pounds.
Though it’s not technically a 2022 hybrid SUV model, the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid went on sale this year. The compact crossover SUV features superb fuel economy and a more spacious interior than you’d expect. The Sportage has an undeniable presence and offers a best-in-class warranty.
“Even though it has a reasonably small 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, the new Sportage Hybrid accelerates reasonably quickly, aided by a 6-speed automatic transmission that delivers power to all four wheels in a refined fashion and never feels like it’s hunting for the right gear,” KBB tells us.

Honda and Hyundai beat out the rest of the 2022 Hybrid SUVs

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid has comfy, roomy seats and an upscale interior. The infotainment controls may be frustrating for some, but its awesome fuel economy more than makes up for it. The CR-V Hybrid offers 40 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.
The five-seater sports an all-wheel-drive powertrain with 212 hp. Rated #3 in hybrid SUVs, the CR-V Hybrid starts at $31,610 and is more engaging than other hybrids. Even if it’s not the most athletic of vehicles, there's lots to love about this Honda’s regenerative brakes and low body roll.
If you’re looking for a quiet interior and a responsive powertrain, check out the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. With lots of cargo capacity, the five-seater starts at $33,750.
The Santa Fe Hybrid sports a six-speed automatic transmission with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The hybrid features 226 hp and the plug-in hybrid ups the ante to 261 hp. Drivers can expect an EPA of 36 mpg in town and 31 mpg on the highway with the Blue trim, and 33 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway for the remainder of the trims.
The 2022 Hyundai Tuscon Hybrid starts at just under $30,000. Though its gas mileage is so-so, the SUV does offer standard hybrid and plug-in-hybrid powertrains, both of which deliver rapid acceleration and ample power,”
U.S. News
tells us.
The hybrid is powered by a 226 hp turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Plug-in users will receive a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor with 261 hp. Buyers will get two rows of spacious seating and a comfortable, well-composed ride.
The five-seater features a lively powertrain and high safety scores. The Tuscon hybrid was also rated #1 by U.S. News in Hybrid SUVs, Crossover SUVs, and SUVs with two rows. It also won the 2022 Best Hybrid and Electric SUV for the Money.
