A short history of Honda ownership

Honda has always been self-owned. Honda has long been an industry leader in car manufacturing, but originally only produced motorcycles beginning in 1937.
Honda did not begin to manufacture automobiles until 1963 when it produced a truck called the Honda T360. The Honda T360 was a mini-truck called a Kei truck, which are popular in Japan. The second automobile Honda manufactured was also released in 1963—a two-seater roadster called the S500
Honda continued to expand its vehicle production through the 1960s, including a commercial delivery van and its first four-door sedan, called the Honda 1300, which was released in 1969. It would take another three years for Honda to release its still-popular
Civic
model in 1972.
At first, Honda was behind its major competitors, Toyota and Nissan, who had been producing automobiles since before WWII. Honda managed to stand out by introducing new technologies before its competitors, like front-wheel drive, and turning originally optional features into standards, like anti-lock brakes and multi-port fuel injection
Honda continues to lead the industry in technology, now with its hybrid and electric options. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has ranked the ten most fuel-efficient cars from 1984 to 2010. Honda has produced five of them.
