With two used hybrid models on the market, Saturn
has a few options for those who want to buy a hybrid: the Vue
and the Aura
. Here’s everything you need to know about Saturn hybrids. Just about 15 years ago, Saturn debuted its first hybrid when it rolled out the Saturn Vue Green Line for the 2006 model year. At the time, it cost less than the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid, which was the lowest-priced gas-electric hybrid SUV.

Saturn first debuted hybrid models in 2006: the Saturn Vue Green Line and the Saturn Aura. These hybrids were the only two to be released under the Saturn badge.
They were discontinued in 2009, even though they accounted for nearly one-third of GM’s hybrid sales in 2008.
The table below breaks down both Saturn hybrid models, along with the pricing information and fuel economy for each vehicle’s base trim.

Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric car: what’s the difference?
Both of Saturn’s hybrids run on gas. So, how does that work?
The electric motors work in tandem with the gas engine to aid propulsion and power the car. The difference between a hybrid and an electric car is that you can’t charge a hybrid’s battery or drive a hybrid only on electricity.
Saturn has no electric cars, and there are no plans to offer any in the future.
The best Saturn hybrid cars
There are only two Saturn hybrid vehicles. One is an SUV, and one is a car. The best Saturn hybrid for you will depend on which class of vehicle you prefer.
Saturn hybrid SUV: Saturn Vue Green Line
The Vue Green Line was the most affordable mild hybrid on the market when it was released. It achieved a fuel economy of 28 mpg combined and boasted a stunning interior for its time. But the draw is the fuel usage—or lack thereof—and you’ll find it in spades if you buy the 2008 model year Vue.
Many SUV hybrids have been released in the past 15 years since the Green Line made its debut, so there are likely better options on the market (both new and used). But the Green Line isn’t overly expensive, so buying one will save you money on the price tag and at the pump, which is especially important nowadays.
Saturn hybrid car: Saturn Aura Green Line
The Saturn Aura Green Line was announced as a concept car at the 2005 North American International Auto Show and put into production in 2006. It was built to compete with European models and took home the 2007 Car of the Year award.
But it didn’t last long. A lack of propulsion and little improvement in fuel economy compared to non-hybrids doomed this mild hybrid from the start, even with the award in its trophy case. General Motors marketed it as cheaper than a full hybrid, but using the word “cheap” may have backfired altogether.
Are Saturn hybrids worth it?
Let’s break down both Saturn hybrids further.
Performance
General Motors didn’t appear to spend too much time researching and testing what would make the Vue Green Line and the Aura Green Line attractive to buyers.
The Vue Green Line could chalk up an unimpressive 0-60 time of just under 11 seconds. Fortunately, buyers aren’t likely looking to this vehicle to set land speed records on the salt flats.
The Aura Green Line isn’t much quicker, getting to 60 only 0.8 seconds faster.
If performance is important to you in a hybrid, the Saturn hybrids available are not going to suit your purposes well.
Reliability
The Saturn Vue scores a 4.2 out of 5 rating from RepairPal, while the Aura does not have a rating on the site. A 4.2 is above average, however, which implies the SUV will last a long time if you take care of it properly.
