Among the compact truck class, the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado is a top contender. It comes available with powerful V6 and diesel engine options (which unlock the maximum towing capacity of 7,700 pounds when equipped with a turbodiesel engine!), along with composed handling and roomy front seats that provide a comfortable ride no matter what you’re hauling.

2022 Chevrolet Colorado truck bed dimensions

The 2022 Colorado keeps things relatively simple with just two available bed length options. The Extended Cab comes with a long box (6-foot-2-inch bed), while the Crew Cab can be equipped with either the long box or a short box (5-foot-2-inch bed)
But how much do the long box and short box actually differ? Let’s take a closer look at the dimensions for the long box first:
  • Bed length: 74 inches
  • Bed width: 57.8 inches
  • Total cargo volume: 49.9 cubic feet
And here’s the dimension for a Crew Cab with a short box:
  • Bed length: 61.7 inches
  • Bed width: 57.8 inches
  • Total cargo volume: 41.3 cubic feet
Please note that since the Colorado doesn’t have a traditional trunk, cargo volume is based on the truck’s bed length.
Additionally, the Colorado’s cargo bed has a payload capacity of 1,569 pounds. While not as stout as a full-size truck, the midsize truck is still capable of hauling some bulky items, like a few dirt bikes. By comparison, the Chevrolet Colorado’s top competitor—the
Ford Maverick
—has a 4.5-foot bed that offers just 33.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

2022 Chevrolet Colorado cargo bed specs

The Colorado’s bed length provides more than just generous space. It also comes with helpful features such as built-in steps in the corners of the rear bumper and handrails in the bed rails.
Furthermore, the Chevrolet Colorado comes available with an optional EZ Lift and a Lower tailgate as well. While the midsize truck lacks a built-in bed liner and in-bed power outlet like most of its rivals, the 2022 Colorado does offer several tie-down points in the bed.
