Range Rover Tire Pressure

Keep the front Range Rover tires around 33 psi and the rear tires around 36 psi. You’ll want to check the tire pressure about once a month.
Written by Abbey Orzech
background
It is recommended you keep Range Rover tire pressure at 33 pounds per square inch (psi) in the front tires and 36 psi in the rear tires.
Maintaining the appropriate air pressure in your car tires is vital to road safety. Tires with too little air are at higher risk of blowing out and can make steering more difficult. Fill them up too much and your braking and handling may not be as effective. Happily, checking tire pressure and filling them as needed is car maintenance beginner-friendly.

What is the right tire pressure for a Range Rover?

To check the recommended tire pressure for a Range Rover, you can break out your owner’s manual, check the driver’s side door jamb tire pressure sticker, or call 844-924-8260 with your vehicle’s information. Usually, it’s 33 psi in the front tires and 36 psi in the rear tires
I say “usually” because tire pressure needs can change between Range Rover trims. More performance-geared trims are likely to have higher psi recommendations than the base model, so it is always a good idea to confirm the tire pressure from one of the above-mentioned sources.
Even your tire type can affect tire pressure needs. Standard all-season wheels have different psi recommendations than summer tires, touring tires, or high-performance variants. When in doubt, check out the tire pressure specs in your owner’s manual.

How to check Range Rover tire pressure

Want to check your Range Rover’s tire pressure at home? No problem! Most newer vehicles are equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and have the tire pressure of each tire displayed on the infotainment setup. The TPMS system will even alert you once any of your wheels reach below a certain psi to let you know it’s time to refill.
If you don’t have the TPMS system or would simply rather check for yourself, head to the auto supply shop and
get yourself a tire pressure gauge
—it’s typically small and inexpensive, don’t worry. Then all you have to do is uncap the air valve stems on each tire and push the head of the gauge onto the stem
It may not be on the stem fully if you can easily hear air hissing out. Readjust the gauge until it sounds like the air is going into something, and whatever reading your gauge spits out is the tire pressure for that tire!
You can also head to the air compressor fill-up station at your local gas station. When you press the head of the air compressor onto the air valve stem, you should be able to see a tire pressure reading on the gauge of the air compressor
And of course, your tires may communicate improper air pressure through your vehicle’s performance. If you’re noticing a decrease in your fuel economy, sluggish handling, or worsening braking capabilities, make a point to check on your tire’s air pressure.

How often should you check tire pressure?

You should check the tire pressure of your vehicle about once a month or before long trips. It’s best to check tire pressure in the morning or after your vehicle has been off and parked for at least three hours.

How to tell if your Range Rover needs new tires

Generally, Range Rover tires can last for about six years of continuous use. Your driving terrain and habits can affect that interval, though, so loop tire pressure checks into your regular vehicle maintenance schedule.
You may need to swap out your wheels for fresh ones if you notice overly worn tread, bulging, or cracking on any of your tires. A handy rule of thumb for tire tread: if you stick a US penny in the tread Abe’s head down and can see the top of his head, your tread is too low.

How to reset the Range Rover tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

Your Range Rover tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) can be an incredibly useful system to alert you to worrying changes in your tires. You’ll get a warning if one or more of your tires (including the spare!) drops 25% or lower below the recommended tire pressure
And while that’s great for safety reasons, you may run into the common issue of still seeing the alert even after you’ve fixed the issue. If this happens, you have a few options for resetting the system:
  1. Inflate all the tires to the recommended tire pressure and then go for a minimum 10-minute drive at or above 50 mph; this should give the sensors enough time to reset and dismiss the alert the next time you turn your vehicle on
  2. Turn the key “on” but leave the engine off; press and hold the TPMS reset button (usually found under the steering wheel) until you see three flashes of the tire pressure light; release the TPMS button and start the car
  3. Overinflate all tires to 3 psi over the recommended tire pressure; deflate all tires completely; re-inflate all tires to the recommended tire pressure
  4. With the vehicle completely off, disconnect the positive battery cable; turn the ignition on and depress the horn for roughly three seconds to discharge any remaining power; reconnect the positive battery cable
Now, if you’re still seeing that TPMS alert after giving all of these reset methods a try, you may need to bring your Range Rover to the nearest Land Rover dealership. A Land Rover technician will be able to assess, diagnose, and amend the problem.
