Why you should know your Land Rover’s lug pattern

Your Land Rover’s lug pattern—also known as a bolt pattern—tells you two important pieces of information about your wheels: the number of lug holes in your wheels and the spacing between them.
The first number tells you how many lug holes are in a wheel, while the second tells you the diameter of the circle those holes form. Here’s an example: a 5x5 lug pattern would be a wheel with five lugs that create a five-inch circle. Simple, right?
You’ll want to know your lug pattern if you ever need to change your wheel, either due to wear and tear or to upgrade your Land Rover’s style.

Lug pattern terminology 101

If you don’t understand all the terms and numbers listed above, don’t worry! Here’s a helpful guide to the most critical lug pattern terminology.
OEM wheel size: This is the size of the Land Rover’s original wheel (OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer). You’ll need to match this size when installing new rims.
Lug pattern: Lug pattern is the number of lug holes and the distance between them on your wheel. It is also known as the bolt pattern.
Offset: The wheel's offset is the distance between the mounting surface and the rim's center. Positive offsets mean the wheels pull towards the car. Negative offsets mean the wheels stick out.
Stud size: There are two ways to write stud size. The U.S. shows stud size as stud diameter x threads per inch (example: 1/2x20). For metric users, stud size shows as stud diameter x distance between threads (example: 14mm x 1.50).
Center bore: This is the opening that centers the wheel on the hub. The center bore can vary in size, so be sure to know this measurement.

How to measure your Land Rover’s lug pattern

If your Land Rover isn’t on the list above, there’s no need to panic. You can figure out your lug pattern at home with just a ruler or measuring tape.
First, count the lugs. That’s how many lug holes on your Land Rover.
Next, you’ll need to measure the diameter. Take a ruler and measure across the wheel from the edge of one lug. If there are an odd number of lugs, you'll need to measure to the midpoint of the closest lug on the far side. That's your diameter.
If the diameter is 4.5 inches and your Land Rover has 5 lug holes, your lug pattern is 5x4.5.
