Audi A7 3.0 TFSI engine oil capacity

The engine oil capacity of an Audi A7 3.0 TFSI is 7.2 quarts, or 6.8 liters.
Be sure you don’t confuse your engine’s displacement with its engine oil capacity. The three liters of space taken up by your Audi A7’s engine is not the same as the 6.8 liters (7.2 quarts) of engine oil required to power it, and you should never assume those numbers are interchangeable!

What kind of oil does an Audi A7 3.0 TFSI need?

So, you need 7.2 quarts of engine oil to power your Audi A7 3.0 TSFI—but just what kind of oil should you be using?
According to your manufacturer, the best engine oil to use in your Audi A7 is FRAM’s full synthetic 5W-40 European motor oil
If you’re new to the world of oil grades, let’s break those numbers down. The numbers in the oil grade refer to oil viscosity, which is a measurement of how thick an oil is at certain temperatures. The number 5 indicates this oil has a low viscosity at 0°F, while the 40 means that it remains relatively thin even at a blazing hot 212°F (which is about your engine’s normal operating temperature).
W simply stands for winter, indicating this oil performs well under cold weather conditions.
Altogether, we can understand that 5W-40 engine oil will perform well in cold weather and maintain a low viscosity that reduces wear and tear on your Audi A7’s engine.
Knowing your manufacturer’s recommendations is important—but that doesn’t mean you have to follow them to the letter! There are several 5W-40 engine oils on the market to choose from. If you’re not sure where to put your purchasing power, consider these three options:
Whatever engine oil you choose, be sure it’s compatible with European-made vehicles!

How often to change oil on an Audi A7 3.0 TFSI

Now that you’re an expert on Audi A7 3.0 TFSI engine oil, you’re ready to change your oil!
But before you break out your toolbox and a brand-new bottle of 5W-40, make sure your engine oil actually needs to be changed. In an Audi A7, it’s recommended you change your engine oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or so.
That being said, your synthetic oil may last you even longer than the manufacturer says—on average, synthetic oils only need to be changed every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
So how do you know when it’s time? One way is simply to check your engine oil levels often (once every month, or every other refuel). Keep an eye out for the following signs that your engine oil needs a change:
  • Oil that is dark brown or black in color(clean oil will be light brown or amber
  • Motor oil that feels coarse or gritty
  • Unfamiliar noises coming from the engine
  • Unusual smells, particularly ones like oil, smoke, or burning smells
  • Changes in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

When the time comes, you can change your engine oil yourself using a few simple tools and some elbow grease.
Before you get started, make sure to have the following materials on hand: a socket wrench, a drain pan, a filter wrench (designed to remove your old oil filter) and new oil filter, plus 7.2 quarts of premium 5W-40 engine oil
Having a funnel to aid in pouring and some extra rags to help with clean-up isn’t a bad idea, either.
Start things off by running the engine for a few minutes, until it reaches normal operating temperature. Usually, it only takes about 5 minutes for your engine to warm up. Once you’re there, you can shut the engine back off, pop the hood, and follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Get underneath the engine and remove the oil drain bolt and washer. Drain the old oil into your drain pan (this may take several minutes)
  • Remove the old oil filter using your filter wrench and continue to let the oil drain
  • Install the new filter
  • Replace the oil drain bolt (don’t forget to use a new washer!
  • Refill the engine with your new oil (use the funnel to make this part easier)
From there, just replace the oil fill cap and double-check the levels with your dipstick. Once you’re done, start your car again and let it run for a few minutes, keeping an eye out for any spots or leaks.
You’ll know you’ve done it right if your
oil pressure light
has turned off on the dashboard.
Last but not least: clean-up! You should never dump dirty engine oil out on the ground or put it in your garbage can. Instead, pour what’s in your drain pan into a sealed container and take it to the nearest recycling center for disposal.
