How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2020 Honda CR-V

If you don’t reset the engine oil maintenance light immediately after an oil change, it won’t track the correct interval between changes.
Fortunately, resetting the light is fast and easy. Here’s what to do:
  • Make sure your car is parked in a safe place and is off.
  • Keeping your foot off the brake, push the start button two times.
  • Push the “INFO” button on your steering wheel as many times as needed to cycle through to the wrench symbol.
  • Push the “ENTER” button on your steering wheel. You should see “Oil Life”.
  • Push and hold the “ENTER” button for approximately five seconds.
  • When the menu pops up, choose “All Due Items” and press “ENTER”—this will reset all service reminders. To reset oil life only, select “Item A Only” and push “ENTER”.
Depending on the trim level of your CR-V, you might have to use the trip meter button to reset the oil life. Here are the appropriate directions:
  • Put your CR-V in accessory mode.
  • Push the trip button as many times as needed to reach “Oil Life”.
  • Push and hold the trip button for approximately five seconds until “Oil Life” beings flashing.
  • Release the button, then push and hold the trip button again for approximately five seconds until “Oil Life” stops flashing.

How often does a 2020 Honda CR-V need an oil change?

While your Honda CR-V’s engine oil light will alert you when it’s time for an oil change, it’s still a good idea to know about how often that little light will come on.
Honda asserts that you should change your oil and filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles if using conventional oil.
If you choose to upgrade to synthetic oil—which is more expensive—you can extend the life between oil changes. In this case, you’ll be able to drive 7,500 to 10,000 miles between services.
