How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2018 Honda Odyssey

Your Odyssey’s oil change light must be manually reset after every oil change, or else it won’t track the correct interval between changes.
Luckily, the process is fast and easy. Here’s all you need to do:
  • Turn your ignition on but don’t start the car
  • Leave your foot off the brake and press the “POWER” button two times
  • Press the “HOME” button on the steering wheel
  • Scroll with the arrow buttons on your steering wheel until you find “MAINTENANCE” and hit “ENTER” to select
  • Next, scroll to find “OIL LIFE”
  • Press and hold the “ENTER” button for about ten seconds to enter the reset mode
  • Once in reset mode, highlight the item you wish to reset and press “ENTER” to reset it
It’s that simple! Now you’re ready to start your Honda and drive around. It will alert you again when it’s time to change your oil.

How often does a 2018 Honda Odyssey need an oil change?

Your Odyssey will tell you when it’s time for an oil change, but it’s still a good idea to have this knowledge in the back of your mind so you can plan and budget ahead of time.
According to the 2018 Honda Odyssey owner’s manual, you should change your oil and filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles if using conventional oil.
If you choose to upgrade to synthetic oil—which is more expensive—you can extend the life between oil changes. In this case, you’ll be able to drive 7,500 to 10,000 miles between services.
