How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2014 Honda Odyssey

The Maintenance Minder System in your 2014 Honda Odyssey monitors your van’s oil life to let you know when it’s time for a change—but you’ll probably have to reset it when you’re done. If you don’t reset your monitoring system, it won’t be able to keep up the right interval between oil changes.
If you get your oil changed at a service shop, the mechanic usually resets the Maintenance Minder for you, but sometimes they forget. If that happens, you don’t have to drive all the way back to the shop to get it fixed—you can reset the oil maintenance light in your 2014 Odyssey at home with zero mechanical skills. If your Odyssey has a Multi-Information Display, just follow these steps:
  • Turn your key to the RUN position without starting your engine.
  • Press the SELECT/RESET button until you see the engine oil life display.
  • Hold down the SELECT/RESET button for at least 10 seconds. You should see the oil life reset mode on the Multi-Information Display screen.
  • Select RESET by using the up or down arrows.
  • Press SELECT/RESET again. The display should disappear and then reappear with the oil life set back to 100%.
  • Turn your car off, then start your engine to make sure the reset is complete.
If your 2014 Odyssey doesn’t have a Multi-Information Display, you’ll follow this process instead:
  • Turn the ignition to the RUN position, but don’t start your engine.
  • Push the SELECT/RESET knob for at least 10 seconds, then the indicator and maintenance code will flash.
  • Press and hold the SELECT/RESET knob button again for at least five seconds. The maintenance code should disappear and the oil life should now be set back to 100%.
  • Turn your car off, then restart the ignition to make sure the reset was successful.
Now your oil warning light should be switched off and your Maintenance Minder back to 100% oil life. Once the Maintenance Minder detects 15% oil life, the notice or warning light will pop up again—indicating you need an oil change ASAP.
If this process doesn’t work and you’re still having trouble getting your oil light to turn off, you may have to take your minivan to a repair shop or Honda service center for the pros to look at.

How often does a 2014 Honda Odyssey need an oil change?

The amount of time you go between oil changes will depend on what type of oil you use. Honda recommends using full synthetic oil for the Odyssey, in which case you can go between 7,500 and 10,000 miles between changes. If you’re using conventional oil, however, you’ll want to change out the oil and filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles
Staying on top of your Odyssey’s oil services will keep the engine in top condition for as long as possible. Skipping regular oil changes could lead to
major engine damage
, so it’s not a chore to put off or ignore.
If you’re looking to cut back on your car expenses, you can always change your own oil at home by following the directions within your
owner’s manual
. Plus, you’ll already know how to reset the oil light when you’re done!
