How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2010 Honda Civic

Honda’s Maintenance Minder system helps you keep track of upcoming vehicle maintenance items—specifically, oil changes. But the light won’t turn off on its own after you perform the service—you’ll need to manually reset it so that the system can continue to track the proper intervals between oil changes.
The good news is that it’s pretty simple to reset the light on your own. You simply need to use the buttons on your steering wheel and follow these steps:
  1. Turn your Civic’s ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine.
  2. Locate the SEL/RESET button and press it until the oil life indicator appears.
  3. Press and hold the button for about 10 seconds until the oil life gauge begins to blink, then release the button.
  4. Press and hold the SEL/RESET button again for at least five seconds. The maintenance code should disappear, and the gauge will reset to 100%.
This process should work to reset your Honda Civic oil light. The light will reappear when it’s time for your next oil change, reminding you it’s time to service your car by replacing the oil and filter.

How often does a 2010 Honda Civic need an oil change?

Honda recommends using SAE 5W-20 motor oil in your 2010 Civic and replacing it every 7,500 miles. Regular oil changes are one of the most important forms of maintenance you can perform on your car and
help prevent severe engine damage
You can change your own oil and oil filter at home following the protocol described in your vehicle owner’s manual. Performing your own oil changes can save you some serious time and money, but you’ll need to remember to reset the light when you’re finished.
If all you’re doing is replacing the oil, it’s pretty simple to reset the light. But if the light won’t turn off or your car requires another service, you might need to take your Civic to the dealership or auto repair shop and let the professionals handle it.
