2019 Toyota Tacoma 3.5 engine oil capacity

This truck is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that has an oil capacity of 6.2 quarts or about 5.9 liters.
The 3.5-liter volume refers to your engine’s displacement, which isn’t the same thing as oil capacity. Displacement refers to the measure of the cylinder volume swept by all of the pistons of a piston engine.

What kind of oil does a 2019 Toyota Tacoma 3.5 need?

The 2019 Tacoma 3.5 takes SAE 0W-20 synthetic motor oil
The oil’s name describes its viscosity, or how thick it is. The numbers before the “W,” which stands for “winter,” tell us the oil’s thickness at 0°F, while the number after the dash tells us the oil’s thickness at 212°F. SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers, the organization that codes oil viscosities.
Full synthetic oil is formulated with higher-performing additives and has fewer impurities and better properties than conventional oil.
Toyota specifically recommends Toyota Genuine SAE 0W-20 Full-Synthetic motor oil, but any full-synthetic oil with the appropriate viscosity will work just fine. If you’d like to save a bit of cash (synthetic motor oil can be a bit expensive), you may opt for a synthetic blend, but keep in mind you may have to change your engine oil more often.

How often to change the oil on a 2019 Toyota Tacoma 3.5

The first step is recognizing when it’s time for an oil change. According to the recommended maintenance schedule for a Toyota, you should change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or about 3-6 months if you’re using conventional oil.
If you’re using synthetic oil, you’ll need to change it every 7,500 to 10,000 miles, or about once a year if you’re not a frequent driver.
Your vehicle’s oil warning light will likely inform you when it’s time for an oil change, but it’s a good idea to make a habit of checking your oil level. We suggest doing it monthly. If your oil is simply low, you can top it off, but if you notice any of these signs, it’s time for a change:
  • Oil that’s dark in color (brown or black, like Coca-Cola) rather than light brown or amber (like a cup of tea)
  • Oil that has a coarse, gritty, or sandy feeling
  • A general shift in your truck’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and change your oil? Head to the auto parts store and purchase 7 quarts of 0W-20 oil, and then make sure you have the following supplies on hand:
  • Socket and filter wrenches
  • A drain pan
  • A replacement oil filter
Okay, you’re ready! Here’s what you need to do:
  • Run your engine for about five minutes to warm it up
  • Turn off your engine and open your car’s hood
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Crawl underneath your vehicle (it may be helpful to raise it with a car jack) and remove the oil drain bolt and washer
  • Drain the old oil into your drain pan
  • Carefully remove the old filter and allow the remaining oil to drain
  • Install the new filter, and replace the drain bolt, tightening it to 29 lb-ft
  • Return to the engine beneath the hood and refill the engine with fresh oil
To ensure that you did the job correctly, use your dipstick to measure the amount of oil in the engine. After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Then, run the car for a few minutes. This allows you to watch for any leaks, and to check to make sure that your dashboard’s
oil pressure light
has turned off.
Finally, be sure to take the time for responsible clean-up! Dirty oil doesn’t belong on the ground or down a drain. Place it in a sealed container and discard it safely at a recycling center.
